ABOUT US |
| |
|
Mathisen Tree Farms
began in the late 1970’s with the plantings that were
mostly Scotch Pine. Colorado
Spruce, Balsam and Douglas Fir were also grown in limited
quantities. |
| |
|
Early in the 90’s
a shift of production occurred with more emphasis placed
upon growing True Firs.
Fraser Fir production rapidly increased from annual
plantings of around 10,000 to nearly 50,000. |
| |
|

|
Our intrigue with the
cultural production of Fraser Fir led us to experiment
with other True Firs.
Now we are growing seven True Fir varieties:
Fraser Fir, Balsam Fir, Canaan Fir, Concolor Fir,
Corkbark Fir, Korean Fir and Nikko Fir.
It is our intent to grow a Christmas Tree that
is the highest quality possible and gives the
homeowner positive experience with a fresh cut
conifer. |
|
| |
| Mathisen Tree Farms also
grows conifers for the nursery industry.
We offer dug trees in pots or handballs in 2’/3’
and 3’/4’. Trees
taller than 4’ are machine dug with a mechanical spade and
placed in a wire basket with burlap (B&B).
We have the ability to dig a tree as tall as 12-feet. |
| |
| Tom personally tags all
the B&B trees himself.
Rob tags all the potted and handball stock.
We grow nursery trees in the following species:
Colorado Spruce, Serbian Spruce, Black Hills Spruce, Norway
Spruce, Hemlock, Arborvitae, Austrian Pine, Scotch Pine,
White Pine, Balsam Fir, Concolor Fir, Corkbark Fir, Canaan
Fir, Fraser Fir, Douglas Fir, Nikko Fir and Korean Fir. |
| |
| We grade nursery stock as
either Regular Grade (our biggest production) or as Specimen
Grade. Specimen
Grade trees are the “cream of the crop” in our B&B
production. We
can also quote Commercial or Park Grade upon request. |
